Recording audio narration doesn’t have to be perfect in the first take of your video. There may be times when you need to pause to either collect your thoughts or achieve the right tone. However, pauses can interrupt the flow of your video.
Pauses that are too frequent can leave viewers wondering whether something is wrong with their audio. Worst case scenario, they might give up on your video entirely if they get frustrated or confused. That’s why it’s necessary to remove awkward pauses. But manually finding and editing each of these sections can be a time-consuming task. Not to worry, with ScreenPal’s Video Editor you can edit audio narration easily.
You can easily remove sections of silence with just a few clicks. The video editor identifies moments of silence and can automatically remove it based on the criteria you designate. Here’s an easy how-to guide below to find and fix sections of silence in your narration.
How to edit all sections of silence at the same time
When you record your audio narration, ScreenPal will automatically detect periods of silence. They will be highlighted in your editing timeline. This section will tell you how to edit all sections of silence in your video.
On the right-hand side of your video editor, you will find the ‘Audio’ settings of your video. Your ‘Narration’ will be checked if audio narration is detected in your video.
The Video Editor will automatically detect silence as editable sections on your editing timeline. Once your silences are found, you can cut or speed up pauses in your video with just one click. It’s an easy way to edit and manage sections of silence all at once.
There are several icons that appear next to your ‘Narration.’ To find and fix the pauses of your video, click on the exclamation point icon. Clicking on the icon will pull up a menu of all detected sections of silence.
From this menu, you can:
- Adjust the minimum duration of silence you want to detect by clicking the dropdown menu that appears. Make your adjustments by moving the slider, or typing in the number of seconds you want to select. For instance, you can tell ScreenPal to only detect silences greater than five seconds.
- If you don’t want to see detected silences on your timeline, uncheck “show silence.”
- Speed up all sections of silence
- Cut out all sections of silence
How to edit sections of silence individually
You can also edit sections of silence one at a time. This is especially useful if you are performing a task on the computer screen and have a gap in narration. In this case, you may want to create an effect of narration continuing through the task.
It should be noted this won’t work if you have the webcam activated as the video will then become out of sync. So you will want to create this effect if you are only recording the computer screen.
Select and click the section of silence you’d like to edit on the timeline.
Click on the exclamation point icon to show options to speed up, cut, or absorb the silence.
Absorbing the silence will speed up the video so that narration continues. This feature is only useful if you are not recording a webcam but only the computer screen. For instance, if you recorded a slideshow, and need to remove a section of silence from your narration.
‘Cut Silence’ will remove the section of silence.
‘Speed Up Silence’ will speed up the video.
